Question :- "When using the 'Flashword' option to display custom wordlists, the last word spelled stays visible for a short period. Is this normal ?"
Colin Waterman (Epsom)
Answer :-
Yes this is meant to happen, it allows students who may have misspelled a word to compare and see where they went wrong.
Question :- "Sometimes when asking WordSpell to print results there can be a pause of about five seconds and yet on other similar specification computers this does not happen. Please can you advise ?"
John Fishwick (Bristol)
Answer :-
This sounds like there is a 'Virus Checking' program busy working away checking your printing command. Typically a resident virus checking program on a computer will halve the speed of a lot of operations.
Question :- "Using your
Internet free trial version of WordSpell2, I can only access three wordlists and
can only record my voice over two of them."
Francis
Sammish (Dorset)
Answer :-
The Internet trial version of WordSpell2 had to be kept
small, which meant we had to limit the word-store to only three banks of
wordlists. We purposely designed the 'trial' to not overwrite the first list
shown, titled 'Planets', so that all users have a chance to see what the program
can do. The full version does not have these limitations imposed.
The questions below
were asked regarding the original version of WordSpell, but apply equally to
WordSpell2, which now has even greater features.
Question :- "I am interested in purchasing your WordSpell spelling tutor program for teaching purposes, but first I have a few questions."
1) How will I know what students have been using the program and when ?
2) What would make the students want to use the program in the first place ?
Jason Briggs (Llandovery)
Answer :-
Yes very important questions and taking them in order -
1) WordSpell does keep a 'Log' of the students names, their performance, subject chosen and also records the date and time of use. (These features are staff accessible only !)
2) WordSpell had been designed to 'tempt' students and challenge them. The interface is game like and 'in house' rivalry is quite common. After all for students to benefit, they need to use the program and this has been borne in mind with every aspect of the programs creation.
Question :- "Is there any way to use the keyboard, rather than the mouse to input the spellings, as this way my pupil can learn the keyboard as well as spelling
?"
A Williams
(Blackpool)
Answer :-
Yes you can! It is now possible to use the normal keyboard
to input spellings.
This was requested by many people and has been built into the latest version now
on release (A fully working demo is available from this website!).
Students who do not like keyboards, can still use just the mouse! Registered users will be notified by e-mail and sent the full upgrade
program free of charge.
