| PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION -
 AQ-Phonix is a
very powerful educational tool for learning
English:
Designed with a single purposes in mind -
Learning English. Perfect for
those first steps learning to read or speak English.
Whether at pre-school, junior, or learning English
as a foreign language.
The marriage of this synthetic phonics teaching
tutor, combined with an excellent new spelling
program AQ-Spell, is hard to beat.
It also enables
progression to the more complex aspects of English
pronunciation and grammar using the advanced 'Spell'
section. Including structured word lists, which use
combination vowel and consonant sounds as well as
facilities for teachers to edit, create and
customise, word lists to match students specific
needs.
Stage 1 -
AQ-Phonix: Using the mouse or keyboard, the
principal phonic sound from each letter of the
alphabet is pronounced as that letter is selected.
The on-screen keyboard display can be set in
Alphabetical order - which is ideal for early
learners, or to the normal Qwerty style layout as
learning dictates.
Various other
options include Letter, which speaks the letter
names. Word, which displays an example word using
the phonic as the first letter. Photo, which
reveals an image of the example word to reinforce
the learning. UK or USA flags indicate which
specific phonic sound selection has been setup. View
AQ-Phonix Screenshots
The Setup button
provides access to choose Male or Female voices,
various background skins, UK or USA phonics and
Qwerty or ABC keyboard layout. View
Setup Menu
Word Builder:
A simple device to help the initial learning process. When 'Word Builder' is activated clicking
a sequence of letters such as - D O G - will write and speak the word.
Careful pre-planning by tutors is recommended for this area if it is to be used as part of a structured lesson, as many words use a secondary phonic sound of a letter.
Example words and guidance are both provided in
the manual. For more complex phonics
and to teach spelling, click on the 'Spell' button and switch to the
AQ-Spell screen.
Stage 2 - AQ-Spell:
After a word list has been selected, a
word, or letter combination to be learned from
that list is
displayed and spoken. Students can then either use
Skip Word to see and hear the words from that chosen
list. Or type, or click the on-screen keyboard
letters, to copy each word. Speak Word
repeats the sound or word on display.
Progress
is monitored and each word spelt
correctly gets a green light. At the completion of
each five word list, a percentage correct and
friendly encouraging message is given.
Note:
A carefully chosen set of structured phonic word
lists with speech are already prepared and
included for use, - all currently installed words
are listed in the manual
with guidance notes. All lists can be edited or
added to as specific needs dictate.
A
powerful feature of this program is the fact that
teachers, can add their own regional accents to
speak any, or all of the words, if desired. View
